2022-04-30   Royal Geographical Society, Hong Kong Young Geographer of the Year Award

We are delighted to announce that our student Shafi Mohamed from 5P won the Hong Kong Young Geographer of the Year Awards (YGOTY) in the theme of Urbanscape (Secondary Upper Education Division).

Organized by the Royal Geographical Society — Hong Kong, the competition was designed for all full-time students in Hong Kong. Student entrants had to submit a visual image, be it a photograph, map, sketch or infographic, accompanied by a brief written explanation that demonstrates their knowledge and application of geographical concepts related to one of the competition’s themes: Nature, People and Culture, Urbanscape and Critical Eye.

In the theme of Urbanscape, participants were invited to examine the signature features of Hong Kong’s built environment. Shafi’s submission highlighted Hong Kong’s historical identity in an image capturing the handwritten signboards that were left from the 19th century. It was selected as the winning entry among over 520 entries from more than 400 students from both local and international schools.

Congratulations to Shafi for his good work!
