Ms Florence Chu, the Head of Chinese and Chinese History Department of our College, attended the 4th International School Chinese Language Education Conference and Workshop from November 3 to 5, with a view to upgrading her professional knowledge and skills in addressing the diverse learning needs of our students who are taking ‘Chinese as a Second Language’. The event was held at I-Shou University in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Several other experienced teachers from 21 countries, including Japan, Korea and India, also joined the event. The topic of the workshop was ‘Unpacking Global Literacy and Multiple Texts’. Teachers shared their experiences in teaching ‘Chinese as a Second Language’. They also discussed ways to enhance students’ reading and writing skills, and to incorporate Chinese culture into Chinese Language teaching. Teachers were impressed when Ms Chu shared her successful experience in using the mobile language app ‘mLang’ as a self-learning tool in teaching Chinese. The initiative not only enables our students to learn Chinese independently, but also enhances their confidence and competency in communicating with others in Chinese.Click here for more photos / video.
