To cater for the diverse learning needs of our students who are taking ‘Chinese as a Second Language’, the mobile language app “mLang” has been implemented in S1 and S2 with a view to expanding students’ vocabulary and enhancing their Chinese competency. The initial feedback from students and educators has been positive since its implementation in 2015.
On March 9, a number of educators from the University of Hong Kong and various secondary schools came to our school for lesson observation. During the lessons, Ms Florence Chu, the Head of Chinese and Chinese History Department of our College, showcased the use of mobile technology and e-learning resources in teaching Chinese as a second language. A variety of interactive activities were also included to arouse students’ learning interest. The learning atmosphere of the lessons was very good and all the educators were impressed by the performance of our students. Our teachers and the educators also attended a follow-up seminar afterwards. They shared their experiences in teaching Chinese as a second language, as well as facilitating relevant professional development for teachers. It was a fruitful day for all.
