2017-10-31   Staff Development Day

As part of our continued effort to facilitate teaching staff’s professional and personal growth, a Staff Development Day was held on October 31.

In the morning session, our staff split into two groups and took part in different programmes. A group of seventeen teachers went to the United Christian College (Kowloon East) for professional experience sharing. Apart from joining a campus tour, they had the opportunity to observe lessons for different subjects, namely Chinese, English, Literature and French. A debriefing was held afterwards during which teachers of both schools had a valuable exchange on good teaching practices and pedagogies. The other group of staff, on the other hand, attended a talk conducted by Ms Smile Cheung, who is an education consultant, trainer and part-time lecturer at HKUSPACE and the School of Continuing and Professional Studies (CUHK). The talk offered teachers insights into the latest developments in life planning. They were all inspired to reflect on the important roles that they play in facilitating students’ career and life exploration.

In the afternoon session, all teaching staff attended a legal talk. Drawing on cases from overseas and Hong Kong, teachers were asked to investigate and discuss legal issues from the perspectives of three pairs of stakeholders: Teachers vs Students, Teachers vs the School and Students vs the School. The talk served as a reminder to teachers about what to pay attention to when handling everyday issues at school.

The Staff Development Day was a fruitful day for all. We hope that on completion of these professional development programmes, our teaching staff are better equipped to address students’ needs and to cope with the challenges ahead.
