We are glad to have Hong Kong Rugby Player Ms Chong Ka Yan visit our school on 4 August as part of the HKSI Athletes Development and Outreach Programme—Community in Action, co-organized by Hang Seng Bank and Hong Kong Sports Institute. The programme aims to promote a healthy lifestyle of sports in the community and to facilitate the whole-person development of athletes through regular school visits. Under the programme, elite athletes are invited to share their experience with the youth, and introduce sports as a career option through different interactive activities.
On that day, Ms Chong shared with our students her journey to become an athlete and how she survived the most difficult times through perseverance and determination. She encouraged students to work hard towards their goals and not to give up no matter what difficulties come in the way. As a wrap-up, she invited students to play some rugby training games with her so that they could get a taste of this sport and experience the importance of teamwork and mutual support in a sport team.
Ms Chong’s sharing delivered a message to students that sports can be more than a hobby— it can be a lifelong career, and a chance to bring glory to Hong Kong. Her passion for sports and her earnest demeanor surely has a positive impact on students.
