To celebrate Lunar New Year, the Chinese and Chinese History Department organized the Chinese Department Week from January 17 to 20. Themed “Chinese New Year Fun Fair”(新春文化嘉年華), the event featured a lot of activities which aimed to arouse students’ interest in traditional Chinese culture.

The Cantonese Proverbs Guessing Competition was well-received by students, as shown by their enthusiasm in answering questions related to Hong Kong food culture. Teachers and students also had much fun making Chinese New Year decorations with red packets. The crafts could be used to decorate their homes to create a festive atmosphere. A highlight of the activities was “Fei Chun” Writing. It provided an opportunity for teachers and students to express their wishes for the coming Lunar New Year, and to appreciate the beauty of Chinese calligraphy. All participants voted for the best “Fei Chun” afterwards. Everyone was given a red packet as a blessing for the Year of the Rooster.
