2019-05-17   Visit of the French Consulate

To promote French and broaden students’ horizon about how French could help them succeed in their careers, the French Department invited the French Consulate to give a talk to our students who study French on May 17, 2019. The speakers of the talk were Ms Diane-Sophie TREVOUX, Attachée for Education and Linguistic Affairs, and Ms Yasmin CHAFRA, Head of Campus France Hong Kong Office.

Ms TREVOUX started off by giving a general introduction to France and its traditions and culture. She talked about the French language and La Francophonie: The global significance of France and the French language, and the situation of the French language in Hong Kong (in terms of business, economy, gastronomy, culture and history), with testimonies from French speakers and graduates in Hong Kong.

Ms CHAFRA, on the other hand, focused on higher education in France—what it is like to study in France and what opportunities are available for students who wish to continue their education in France. Apart from mentioning the many dual programmes jointly delivered by top universities in Hong Kong and France, she also briefed students on the Hong Kong/France Working Holiday Scheme. The talk concluded with distribution of informative booklets and gifts for students who participated actively during the talk.

All the students found the talk interesting, and they were very much inspired by the speakers’ sharing. Both parties had a fruitful exchange that day. We look forward to more of such collaborative opportunities in the near future.
