2020-01-14   A Talk with a Holocaust Survivor: Eva Schloss

On January 14, the College arranged for students of S2I and S2R to attend a valuable educational activity called “Asia Society Global Education Series – Holocaust Survivor: Eva Schloss”. The event was co-hosted by the Asia Society Hong Kong Center (ASHK) and the Hong Kong Holocaust and Tolerance Centre (HKHTC) to commemorate the International Holocaust Remembrance Day and the 75th anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz.

Participating students had the opportunity to spend an evening of inspiration and reflection with Mrs Eva Schloss as she shared her harrowing experiences while in captivity, and how she rebuilt her life after being liberated from Auschwitz-Birkenau. Since the Holocaust is part of the Form 2 (Set 1) English Language curriculum, students were given a better understanding of the struggles the Jewish prisoners had to endure and the things they had to do in order to survive. Apart from enriching their knowledge about WWII and the Holocaust, students took home important lessons about forgiveness, persistence, determination and bravery.

Mrs Eva Schloss is an influential speaker who inspires people to be appreciative and do goodwill. Surely, that evening was a memorable one for our students and her words will resonate with them as they grow into virtuous adults.
