The College has been conducting network scheme for HKDSE Music with CCC Ming Kei College and Munsang College for many years. As part of the curriculum, students are required to prepare compositions lasting for 6 – 15 minutes. To further enhance our students’ composition techniques, we invited a renowned composer Mr Ng Cheuk Yin (伍卓賢) to share his choral composition and melody writing skills on July 19, 2021 and August 23, 2021 respectively.
In the first workshop, Mr Ng impressed our students with his exceptional composition techniques. He managed to write a beautiful melody for an adopted lyrics with the chord progression of another song within a few minutes. His appealing sense of humour provoked many questions during the Q&A session and students looked forward to his next sharing.
In the second workshop, he shared his composition “Huxi”, a commission work for the 2015 World Youth and Children’s Choir Festival, and explained the idiomatic theme of it. Besides, he was kind enough to share some industry knowledge of being a composer and the work nature of Hong Kong music industry.
Students were thrilled to learn from Mr Ng and it was a fruitful learning experience for our senior form Music students.
