Characteristics of our History curriculum
Students learn to make sense of current affairs, appreciate different ways of life, understand the close historical and cultural ties between Hong Kong and the Mainland through constructing historical knowledge and enquiry skills. Our History curriculum is tailored to the needs of our students, with the following characteristics:
- to provide students with basic knowledge of the topics while the extended parts are optional for the more capable or interested students;
- active learning approach is adopted to help students develop various generic skills and higher-order thinking skills for further studies;
- to ensure a smooth transition of learning for students who may take History at senior secondary level;
- to enhance students’ interest in the subject and awareness of human society today through life-wide learning opportunities;
- the teaching content is often updated to meet the needs of students.
Course Content
(a) Theme for Secondary 1: The ancient world (From pre-historic period to the 14th century): The birth and interactions of regional civilisations
(b) Theme for Secondary 2: The modern world (From 15th to 19th centuries): The growth and expansion of the West
(c) Theme for Secondary 3: The contemporary world (From the 20th century to the present): Moving towards a multi-polar and interdependent world
